I have no written anything since the last post. This is upsetting. I have been attending events (Talent Night and a Speaker on Odysseus’ Scar in Auerbach’s Mimesis). Been flirting like crazy…nothing new about that.

I also made the best cheesecake ever! The recipe was care of Lina and i share it with you…
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake

¼ cup sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted

3 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Cookie Dough
¼ cup butter softened
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup packed brown sugar
1 Tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup flour
1 ½ cup chocolate chips

For crust–combine cookie crumbs, sugar, stir in butter. Press mixture onto bottom of spring-form pan that has been floured and greased.

For Filling–in mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add eggs beat until well blended. Add sour cream and vanilla. Mix well. Pour over crust. Set aside.

Cookie Dough–In other mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars on medium speed for 3 minutes. Add water and vanilla. Gradually add flour. Stir in l cup chocolate chips. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls over filling, gently pushing cookie dough below surface.Cream cheese mixture should cover cookie dough.

12-14 servings.

I just ended up refusing a friend’s request to complete a survey for a project she is doing in class. I feel like a shit, but her plan is to depict birth control as a negative/oppressive force on women and i cannot provide any data towards such an end. The alternative to birth control is unequal status for women. I may not be a feminist, but i do believe in equal rights and equal opportunities…even if i do love the male body. LOL. Am i a bad person for making it harder for her to complete an assignment? I feel like she choose this topic on her own…if she didn’t then maybe i would comply anyways…i will let you know how she responds to my refusal.

  1. For the record- the survey is going to shape the assignment. If you don’t want to shape it- that is fine. I’m taking myself out of the equation for this assignment.

Also ‘my plan’ is to depict the truth whatever it may be. My starting point of reference is that some women found hormonal birth control a negative force in their lives and are now happy with non-hormonal birth control. Through my survey so far I’m getting people who will defend hormonal birth control completely and passionately and people who have had the negative side effects and will condemn it with every ounce of their being. And it’s not a race to finish for both sides, I’m going to tell it like it is. That’s my plan.

  2. I find it interesting that Heather should believe anyone has rights.
Rights are a nice way to let people believe that they have a value and that as a result of that value, they have categorical entitlements. The diametric alternative to positing rights is a claim that for all our rationality, we must be held responsible to make moral decisions on a case-by-case basis and, since too many immoral/amoral/unethical people populate this sphere, that’s too scary. So we pretend there are universal rights that ought to govern our behaviour.
Heather does not hold equal rights to me. There are no such things. She may deserve equal opportunities to mine, not by virtue of her being equally human, but rather, by her having earned the opportunities by equal merit (talent, skill, effort, …).
As for the truth regarding hormonal birth control, it is not a tool to give women equal control over their destinies to men’s. If anything, it makes them less equal. As long as a woman needs to supplement her person with a counter-measure, she is not in control. The substance, its provider, its manufacturer, its inventor, and its conceptor are.

  3. Equal rights is the term for a political movement and an amendment that was proposed to the American Constitution. I use it in this context.

Are corrective lenses, cold medication and antibiotics equally oppressive then?

  4. um. no. it had it’s time…and might still for the economically underprivileged, but not based on gender or ethnic background. asking a group to self-identify as a minority in order to receive benefits is perpetuating the cycle of differentiation based on characteristics that aren;t supposed to matter.

  5. and i don’t think there is much for affirmative action in Canada. Our social welfare systems do their best to deal with the problem ahead of time…it’s more a problem in the U.S.
